Improve your Cooking with Rental Kitchen Projects
If you rent instead of own your own home, you likely don’t want to do major kitchen renovations, since you don’t own the property. There are still some projects you can do to improve your rental kitchen, which, in turn, will improve your cooking. Here are some rental kitchen projects you can consider:
Hang a pot rack.
Overhead pot racks add a new level of functionality to your kitchen by allowing you to properly store your pots, pans, and other kitchen items in the open where you can quickly grab whatever you need. Pot racks are fairly inexpensive to install, and when you move, you can take them with you, making it a smart investment for a rental property.
Add an island.
While purchasing a kitchen island is slightly more expensive than hanging a pot rack, this is also a project that makes sense because you can take it with you when you leave. Traditionally, kitchen islands are permanently installed, but many companies now sell islands that are free-standing or even on rollers. For even more functionality, choose an island with a butcher-block top.
Change the window treatments.
Window treatments can, of course, go with you when you move, but more importantly, changing them can really make a difference in the atmosphere in your rental’s kitchen. Old curtains and valences can be holding on to smells from cooking in the kitchen over the years, so switching them can make your kitchen feel fresh and new. If you don’t have a vent in your rental kitchen (many don’t), choose inexpensive fabric maybe for kitchens and bathrooms so they can be easily cleaned and replaced often.
Remember, whenever you make chances to your rental property, take pictures and update your renters insurance if necessary. A great policy ensures that all of your purchase, from pot racks and islands to televisions and couches, are covered in the case of a fire or other natural disaster.
